I was asked to design a logo for a leather worker and blacksmith’s growing business.
The logo was to be inspired by historical script stamps from past leatherworkers and tanneries, but given a modern edge.
It also needed to be a very clean design for it to also be made into an embossing stamp for the products being made, so that each one could carry the
Hide & Iron mark.
Scope
- Graphic design
- Logo design
Outcome
A look to the past
The exploration into historical leather works from some of the early Levi Strauss design work to smaller more artisanal leatherworkers of today was really interesting and insightful, the mark I developed pulls elements from that past, but still has the clean lines of today.
The stamp or approval
The client loved the end result and mediately had the new mark made into a tooling stamp so that it could be embossed on every piece he produced going forward, from leather belts and purses, all the way to bespoke sword sheaths and sporrans.
It’s fantastic seeing the mark being used on such a variety of items.
